At Kare-a-Lot we have nine classrooms to serve children ages 6 weeks to 9 years of age. Our center is divided into two floors, one floor for children under 18 months and upstairs which serves 18 months and up. Each age group has its own outside play area with equipment specifically designed to meet that age group. We also have an indoor play area for when the weather is bad shared by all age groups at their own specified time.
Our classrooms include: Infants (0-12 months), Infant 2 (12-18 months), Infant 3 (18-24 months), Toddler I (2-2 ½ years), Toddler II (2 ½ -3 years), Preschool (3-4 years), Prekindergarten (4-5 years) and School Age for before and after school as well as in the summer.
Each classroom has weekly lesson plans that are developed around our curriculum as well as weekly learning themes. In addition, we bring in visitors at least monthly to enforce the lessons taught. For example, in February when we are learning about Dental Health we have a visitor from from a local dentist and during Zoo Animals week we bring a petting zoo to Kare-a-Lot. Pictures of these events can be found on our gallery page. Assessments are done two times a year with the option of parent/teacher conferences.
Student to teacher ratios are kept slightly below the mandated state ratios and we seek to employ staff that have degrees or are currently seeking a degree. Also, we require all of our staff to take CPR and First Aid training and to take an additional 10 hours of child development related training per year.
